I'm Breaking up with Mozart.
It's not you, it's me:)

Don’t worry, it is an amicable separation. I’ll still listen to his music and he’ll stay on my favorite composer list. And no, I’m not walking away from classical music all together either. I do believe it has much to offer, even though it is a bit of a mess at the moment.
I just think I’ve outgrown him. To be fair, he did die way back in the 18th century so he hasn’t had much of an opportunity to change and grow along with me. Maybe, if he was a contemporary fellow, he would be all evolved and aware. You know, the kind of guy that would encourage his sister and other talented women to write music and fulfill their musical destinies.
Although that is difficult to do, even in our world. If my best gal LuAnn writes for Substack about music in a killer publication called Breakfast with Beethoven, but doesn’t have any followers or subscribers, I might be able to send her some. But if she is a better writer than me and starts to (gasp) succeed beyond me, it might get difficult to continue to promote her since we are doing very similar things. None of us is immune to that.

No, actually Lunch with Mozart has served me well. I’ve created a nice hobby for myself, learned that I have something to say, and really enjoyed putting words down on the page week after week. After week, after week.
After week.
But change is in the air. Classical music is in turmoil, if you didn’t know it, like a lot of things. I think it will be easier to push those boundaries if I’m not paying homage to something old and traditional every week.
So I’m making a change.

That’s allowed, you know. We often struggle with change. Big or small or in between. Even I, queen of changing things up, have difficulty with change. Especially if I am not deciding what that change is.
I’m going to turn a big milestone age-wise in a month. This seems like a great time to reveal the new and improved Substack publication formerly known as Lunch with Mozart. It’s even on a Friday, which has been my traditional meet up over the last two years here. Yeah - I like all the symbolic crap a lot!
So Mozart and I will be tying up some loose ends in June. I need to figure out if I can just change my name in Substack land or if there is some more official procedure to it. I want to review my musical year for you.
Time to close this door so another one can open. Mozart’s not going anywhere - but it’s time for others to have a presence.

Hope you will stick around to see what’s next - I think it will be fun! Who’s with me?
